The best part of traveling to new countries is experiencing different cultures and ways of life. Fortunately that means trying new incredible food and deliciousness. Any world traveler will tell you that no two cities are the same in terms of the local cuisine. Many people know that Spain is famous for their Iberian ham and rice dishes, but there’s much more to that glorious country.
I spent the Spring months in the southern region of Spain in a city called Seville. Over the course of that time, I got to know the local dishes and restaurants pretty well and have a few recommendations. For those that don’t know, tapas restaurants serve a wide variety of appetizers or snacks and it’s a revolutionary idea that I wish was more popular in the US.
In terms of places to eat, I never found a bad restaurant, but I do have a few favorites. My absolute favorite place to eat was the Mercado Lonja del Barranco. It’s an indoor/outdoor market place right on the river that has a wide variety of foods and drinks. Another favorite is Cien Montaditos. This sandwich shop chain has incredible and affordable mini sandwiches.
One of my favorite dinner spots was a restaurant tucked away in an alley called Perro Viejo. It has the feel of an expensive meal but with very affordable prices. They also change their menu often so there is always something new to try.
One of my favorite things to do while in Seville was go to Taberna la Autentico del Sur to get some of the best wine and cheese in town. Of course any tapas bar or restaurant you go to is going to be delicious because that’s what Spain for you.
Parting advice? You have to visit any gelato store you see because no matter what, it’s going to be delicious!
¡Buen provecho!
