Program Overview
- Program Description:
- The Oxford Experience is a unique summer school held at Christ Church, Oxford. It runs for six weeks, with new classes each week. Participants can enrol for one or more weeks.
This is a residential programme of one-week courses designed for non-specialists. It offers a choice of ten to twelve seminars each week over a period of six weeks. Participants do not need any formal qualifications, just an interest in their chosen subject and a desire to meet like-minded people.
Participants stay and study in Christ Church - one of the most impressive and beautiful colleges of Oxford University.
Oxford Experience offers an exciting range of courses in the following broad subject areas: archaeology and early history; art, music, houses and gardens; literature, folklore and creative writing; modern history and politics; natural and social sciences. Where appropriate, courses include a field trip.
The cost is all inclusive – a single price for tuition, course field trip (if applicable), full board in college, evening social programme, opening and closing receptions and final night gala dinner.
- Setting Description:
- As a resident guest of Christ Church, participants have access to many areas closed to the general public and they enjoy an insider’s view of current student life in the college. Participants stay in student accommodation and dine in hall (Oxford's largest). Most of the site is open to participants, including the cathedral, the picture gallery and the riverside walks in Christ Church meadow. The size of the groups is kept small - normally no more than 12 people are registered for any course. Many of the seminars include an excursion and these form an integral part of the course.
