Program Description:
The Graduate Program in Science and Technology Studies will offer advanced training leading to the MA and PhD degrees. Drawing upon the demonstrated expertise of a wide range of faculty, the Program will provide highly qualified students with a unique opportunity of doing specialized academic work in Science and Technology Studies (STS). Research in Science and Technology Studies applies the methods and theories of the social sciences and cultural studies to the examination of scientific knowledge and practice, both past and present. Choose York: •As a graduate student, you'll apply the methods and theories of the social sciences and cultural studies to examine scientific knowledge and practice, both past and present. •York is designated to be one of six regional nodes in the SSHRC-funded Strategic Knowledge Cluster in STS/HPS. As a regional node, scholars at York will develop and secure funding for collaborative research projects and hold small conferences and summer workshops. •For 13 years, the STS community at York has hosted a colloquium, at which scholars from York, Canada, the United States, the United Kingdom and Europe have presented their research and have been engaged in lively discussion by the audience. Nearly 300 such seminars have been given since they first began in 1994. •York is also home to one of the most prominent journals in the field - ISIS.
