Professors and graduate students of the program are associated with more than a dozen independent research institutes at York including the York Centre for International & Security Studies, the Centres for Feminist Research, German & European Studies, Refugee Studies, Asian Research, Practical Ethics, Research on Work & Society, Research on Latin America & the Caribbean and the Robarts Centre for Canadian Studies.
