Program Description:
The philosophy and curriculum of the program is grounded in critical thought with an underlying commitment to equity and social justice. Language, culture and teaching are broadly defined areas of study. Flexibility is key within the program and students are free to develop individual programs of study and research as they work with faculty supervisors. Small classes allow for individual attention and collaboration with peers. Teaching assistantships and/or research assistantships are available for full-time graduate students. Interdisciplinary courses offer a range of opportunities for academic inquiry across the social, historical and cultural contexts of education, as well as engagement with contemporary practices of teaching, learning and curriculum design. Theoretical and practical interests include: anti-racist, multicultural, and feminist pedagogies; language and literacy; new information technologies; urban education and community studies; disability studies and education; global studies and international education; and post-secondary education. All Education Diplomas are on a part-time basis only unless taken concurrently with the doctoral or master’s program.
