Program Overview
- Program Description:
The online Wheeling Jesuit University Master's in Education Leadership has two tracks: (1) School or System Leadership - leads to licensure as a principal, general supervisor, or superintendent; (2) Instructional Leadership - designed for classroom teachers who wish to gain leadership skills.
These M.Ed.L. graduate programs provide educators with global knowledge, skills, and dispositions needed to meet the challenges of the 21st century. Both 33-credit programs are designed to acommodate the busy schedules of working educators and can be completed in approximately one year--summer, fall, spring, and the next summer--or at the applicant's own pace. Applicants may begin the program at the beginning of any semester.
These highly focused programs provide real-worl, field-based residency experiences in a school or school system of your choice with WJU approval.
Initial licensure is through the West Virginia Department of Education and is transferrable to most other states through reciprocity agreements.
Students conduct authentic action research or other capstone project and complete professional portfolios designed for personal advancement.
An educator may design his or her own course work to gain expertise in a particular area of education leadership. Five courses (15 credits) approved by WJU can result in attainment of a certificate in a particular Sequence of Study. This may be important value added to the educator's resume, enhancement of professional marketability, solutions to on-the-job issues, site-specific concerns, professional advancement, and potential jumps on the salary scale.
