Program Overview
- Program Description:
- The Graduate Liberal Studies (GLS) curriculum is academically rigorous and creatively intense, inspiring students to produce their best work in this intellectually vibrant community. SMALL CLASSES: Graduate seminars provide students with the personal attention and "small liberal arts college" experience that are hallmarks of Wesleyan University. A typical class has 12 to 14 students. FACULTY: GLS faculty include some of Wesleyan's most acclaimed professors and artists-in-residence, in addition to well-known writers, artists, and distinguished faculty from area universities. STUDENTS: Our students bring diverse cultures, professions, and interests to the classroom. Students range in age and experience from recent college graduates to retirees. They are teachers, artists, administrators, computer programmers, nonprofit leaders, lawyers, journalists and more. What they share is a desire to challenge themselves to build more meaningful lives. ADMISSION: GLS offers two forms of admission: open enrollment and application for admission to the degree program. Through open enrollment, anyone who has already completed a four-year degree is welcome to register for courses. Those who wish to pursue a degree have two options: the Master of Arts in Liberal Studies (MALS) or the Certificate of Advanced Study (CAS). You may apply for admission to the degree program prior to taking GLS courses or after taking a few courses as a non-degree student. Flexible schedules include evening, weekend, and five-day immersion course schedules in fall, spring, and summer (and additional daytime schedules in the summer).
