Program Overview
- Program Description:
- This six-week program is designed for students who want to build their
conversational French or Wolof language skills, learn more about
Francophone West Africa, and experiment with field research. Dakar,
Senegal provides the perfect opportunity to explore themes in African and
Francophone studies because of its geographical location and unique
history. Students will receive 6 credits for the program: 3 credits for
French Conversational Fluency (for those with 3 semesters of French) OR
Wolof, and 3 credits in African Studies. In addition to coursework, there
are pre-arranged study trips to cities outside of Dakar. Finally,
students will complete a small research project.
The program is open to Washington University and non-Washington University
students. Applications are accepted on a rolling basis until Feb. 15,
2014. If you have interested non-Washington University students who have
difficulty meeting this deadline, please let us know.

- Setting Description:
- Students will spend 5.5 weeks in Dakar but we will spend a week in the North, on the historic island of Saint Louis where we will study from the regions top scholars and perform service at Rawane Ngom Primary School.
- Cost:
- The program, including 6 units of tuition, housing, and food is $4200. Students must purchase their own airline tickets.
