Program Description:
The program will develop preservationists who actively participate in, and assume responsibility for, maintaining and restoring the built environment by following the letter and the spirit of local, state, and federal preservation laws. Graduates of the program will be able to: * Integrate the Ursuline Mission with emphasis on values and social responsibility * Communicate effectively in the language of the discipline * Accurately document buildings and historic sites * Participate in preservation legal cases * Write successful grant applications * Prepare plans for adaptive reuse and rehabilitation * Demonstrate the economic advantages of rehabilitation and adaptive reuse * Dialogue with community and government leaders to champion a sustainable society * Advocate the protection of vulnerable properties from demolition * Compete successfully for employment in the field * Become leaders in the field of Historic Preservation Ursuline - where classroom theory meets real life experience. This is an interdisciplinary degree program where you'll immerse yourself in the community guided by mentors. Courses actively involve you in Historic Preservation as you document buildings and historic sites, then work with community and government leaders to prepare plans for the preservation, redevelopment and adaptive reuse of those sites. You will then write the grant applications needed to fund those planned projects. Finally, you will document each portion of the process to provide a historic record for the community and future generations.
