Program Overview

Program Description:
Our program in Industrial/Organizational (I/O) Psychology provides broad training in the application of psychological principles in the workplace. We offer courses in the basic content areas of I/O Psychology (e.g., personnel selection, performance appraisal, work motivation, leadership, work attitudes) and in psychological assessment and research methodology. Strong emphasis is placed on the development of research skills and students are encouraged to be actively involved in research other than that required for their MA and PhD theses. We also require that students learn to apply their skills in dealing with problems in actual work settings. With the participation of local organizations, students are given opportunities for practical experience by undertaking on-location research projects. Under faculty supervision, graduate students interact with organizations to address problem areas from a behavioral perspective.
