Program Description:

The Department of Special Education and Speech-Language Pathology offers the Masters in Education degree in the areas of Special Education-Interrelated and Speech-Language Pathology. The masters programs are thirty-six (36) hours in addition to prerequisites. Initial certification and Add-On Certification programs are available in Interrelated Special Education. The Department of Special Education and Speech-Language Pathology prepares speech-language pathologists and teachers to pursue careers in public schools.

The department also offers the Specialist in Education (Ed.S.) degree in Special Education (Curriculum and Instruction) and Special Education (Leadership). Students applying for these programs must have a Level-5 teaching certificate in special education or a Level-5 service certificate in Speech-Language Pathology. Specialist in Education programs are twenty-seven (27) semester hours in addition to any prerequisites needed. All teacher education (masters, specialist, initial certification, and add-on certification) programs are accredited by the National Council for Accreditation of Teacher Education (NCATE) and the Professional Standards Commission (PSC).
