English Language Program
The Research Group in ecology/zoology emphasises research within fields of ecology, conservation biology and evolution. Important topics of investigation include the role of infectious organisms (parasites) in influencing the abundance, distribution and behaviour of mammals, birds, fish and insects. A significant part of the department's research is directed toward central issues in environmental protection and management, with projects encompassing topics such as the transmission of parasite infections in fish farms, faunal biodiversity characteristics of natural and managed forests, large predator management related to domestic livestock, ungulate population fluctuation and habitat selection, and population regulation in game birds such as ptarmigan.
