This course will offer a unique opportunity to study the culture of Spain while living an experience of complete immersion in Seville, the capital and largest city of the autonomous community of Andalusia and the province of Seville.
The University of Toronto offers 3 to 6 week summer courses in Australia, Central Europe (Czech Republic) China (Hong Kong, Shanghai and Beijing, Ecuador, England, France, Germany, Greece, Italy, Peru, South Africa, South Korea, Spain and the United Arab Emirates.
Courses are for degree credit and students from other North American universities are welcome to participate. Prices vary by site and range from approximately $4200 to $9000 (this include tuition, accommodation, meals, textbooks, and field trips).
The program is hosted by Estudios Universitarios y Superiores de Andalucia (EUSA), a well established local private university affilaited with the University of Seville. EUSA is located a short distance from the historical centre of Sevilla with modern facilities, which include a computer lab equipped for internet access, a library, study/lounge areas, and sports facilities. This course will include mandatory field trips to the region’s famous cultural sites including visits to Itálica, Córdoba and a three day trip to Grenada
Setting Description:
A city of just over 700,000 inhabitants (1.6 million in the metropolitan area, making it Spain's 4th largest city), Seville is Andalucia's top destination and has gained a reputation for its architecture and culture . Students with diverse disciplinary backgrounds will be comfortable with the course content which will study different aspects of the culture of this region. The class will explore a variety of materials as well as conduct on-site visits to cities such as Itálica, Córdoba and a three day trip to Grenada, pertaining to the region’s rich historical, architectural, artistic and culturalheritage. Students’ learning experience will be greatly enhanced by the direct linkages they will be able to make between material studied in the classroom and the reality they will encounter in their daily life and through the numerous site visits.
