Program Overview

Program Description:
The Faculty's research stream programs include the Masters of Science in Forestry (MScF) and the Doctor of Philosophy (PhD). Students are funded to work independently on a research thesis under the direction of a supervisor for 2 years in the MScF program and 4 years in the PhD. Students select their own area of research from a wide diversity of research areas such as basic and applied research on wood products, mathematical modelling and operations research, social and economic aspects of forests, forest policy and trade of forest products, forest ecology, forest entomology, forest conservation, forest soils, forest genetics, and bio-energy. Research is conducted at the faculty, field sites around the world and/or in collaborating research institutes, depending on the subject and area. Both degrees are also offered collaboratively with the Centre of the Environment to allow students breadth in their training. A minimum number of courses are required to complete the degree, in addition to the research thesis.
