- The Counselling Psychology Program is designed to provide critical and scholarly skills in counselling and counsellor education and to train counsellors and psychologists in the general domain of human services. The program provides students with the theoretical and professional training in preparation for psychological work with adults in educational, mental-health, private practice and research settings. The program is designed to provide training in assessment, therapy, and professional consultation. Opportunities are available for research and professional work with adults and families. The Counselling Psychology program aims to provide knowledge of and practice in: (a) a wide array of services required by community agencies and educational institutions; (b) critical perspectives on mental health such as, the impact of gender, culture, race, socioeconomic status, sexual orientation and other sources of diversity on well-being and ways to address these issues in practice; (c) strategies to address challenges posed by the cultural context of counselling, from individual interventions, to group formats, to educational activities in the community and social activism and; (d) ethical and professional standards for successful practice.
