- The purpose of the Master of Arts in Education with option in Counseling is primarily directed to the preparation of counselors for service in elementary and secondary schools. This program option meets the academic requirements for Professional School Counseling certification in the State of Texas. The MA in Education option in Counseling can also be structured, through the selection of appropriate courses, for preparation as a counselor for positions in community agencies. This latter option is designed to fulfill the academic requirements leading to Texas certification as a Licensed Professional Counselor. This program requires a minimum of 48 semester hours.
