Program Overview
- Program Description:
- The Master of Science in Applied Health Informatics creates an educated workforce with the knowledge and skills to assess, implement, maintain and evaluate Electronic Health Records (EHRs) and computerized health information systems. The program requires 36 semester credit-hours (12 courses). Each course consists of didactic and laboratory coursework with the exception of the capstone project. The courses investigate a broad selection of areas such as the modern American healthcare system, healthcare legislation, primary care facilities, health information security protocols, project management and change management. The program culminates a capstone project that summarizes the skills that are learned from the previous courses and allows students to apply them in a practical, real-world setting. These courses are available only online. If there is sufficient demand, the courses will be offered more frequently. This program is available to both full-time and part-time students. The Master of Science in Applied Health Informatics coursework is, in general, not transferable to the Master of Science in Health Informatics or the Doctor of Philosophy in Health Informatics. A subset of select courses (HIT 5303, HIT 5323, HIT 5324, HIT 5325) maybe transferable upon the approval of the student's advising committee.
