Program Overview

Program Description:
McCombs School of Business at The University of Texas - Austin offers a program like no other - the Master of Science in Technology Commercialization (MSTC). This elite executive degree prepares you to be a successful technology entrepreneur. In one year the MSTC program will equip you to move a promising innovation from the laboratory to commercial success. You will learn to identify and evaluate emerging technologies, identify customers and marketing strategies, develop broad, flexible business plans, build a high-functioning management team to drive the new venture, devise approaches for securing funding, and manage and protect intellectual property. The ability to commercialize new technology rapidly is essential for a competitive advantage in dynamically changing private and public sector environments. Science and technology commercialization is key to the reinvention of organizations and the basis for the creation of new customer oriented technology-based enterprises. Through the MSTC program you will gain the knowledge and skills to cope with the formidable economic, social, financial, and political changes associated with creating economic value from knowledge. The focus is on the rapid transfer of research, knowledge, and technology from ideas to the marketplace - the entrepreneurial wealth creation process. The mission of the MSTC program is to combine cutting edge technology, entrepreneurship and education to bridge the gap between ideas and needs in the marketplace resulting in the creation of new, innovative ventures. The MSTC program is designed so that students earn a graduate degree in just one year while continuing to work full-time. Classes meet every-other weekend, on Fridays and Saturdays from 8:00 am to 5:30 pm, for a total of 27 weekends. The program begins in April of each year and consists of 36 graduate credits packed into an intensive sequence of 12 three-credit courses.

Additional Program Information

Accreditation:
The M.S. in Technology Commercialization program was reviewed by the Southern Association of Colleges and Schools Accreditation body and received commendations for its excellence.
International Requirements:
International students upon admission to the program must show at least $58,500 USD in financial support before an I-20 will be issued allowing them to come into the MSTC program. The program tuition alone is $46,000 USD for the entire program year. Once an international student's application is complete (all items listed on the attached checklist logged in our office) your file is eligible for review. If accepted, we convey that to our international office and you would then submit your proof of financial support, they will issue your I-20 and you are eligible to apply for a student visa at that time. International Students are not eligible for financial aid assistance from the International Office until they have completed ONE academic year of full-time enrollment. Unfortunately, as the MSTC program is only a 1 year program, International Office financial assistance would not apply to an MSTC student. Students from Mexico are eligible to apply for TAMS.
