Program Overview

Program Description:

ECIDcombines expertise from Geography, Environmental and Development Studies to provide an interdisciplinary approach to the challenges of international development. Drawing on academic theory and practice in relation to both development and environmental change, this course enables you to unpack and explore the key environmental challenges facing development agendas in the global south.

The emergence of sustainability as a key component of the development agenda means that concern with climate change, desertification, food deserts and declining water supplies are at the forefront of current debates. This course prepares students with the knowledge and skills to inform policy makers, planners, managers and practitioners as to the critical importance of the environment to development agendas. Students gain first-hand experience of translating policy into practice through a core fieldtrip and placement-based dissertation, providing them the opportunity to experience the rewarding challenges of negotiating ideas into practice.
