Program Overview

Program Description:

The innovative MA in Screen Translation (MAST) offers students a unique opportunity to combine theory with practice in the fast growing field of screen translation. Our increasing use of audiovisual material in our daily lives has led to a huge surge in demand for screen translation in recent years.

The constraints of the audiovisual medium, which shape the practice of screen translation, make it a fascinating and rewarding area of study. On the MAST program you will have the opportunity both to develop your translation skills and also to acquire new  practical subtitling skills using industry standard subtitling software.

Themed screenings of International and European films are incorporated into the teaching of the MAST program and you will have the opportunity to view a range of thought- provoking subtitled films at the University.

The MAST program includes the following modules:

·The Theory and Practice of Subtitling

·Film Translation of Literary Classics

·Subtitling Project

A combination of screen translation and translation modules are combined in this program, which is designed both for students wanting to specialize in screen translation and also for practising translators wishing to extend their range of skills.
