The MA in Librarianship, with its emphasis on both physical and digital library services, introduces students to the best current thinking and practice, and equips them with the knowledge and skills to immediately contribute value to an organization. Graduates of the program have an in-depth understanding of strategic and practical issues associated with delivering library and information services, and the daily and long-term challenges involved in leading and supporting existing activities and new initiatives. They are able to play a positive part in the exciting changes taking place in the fast-developing information world.
Technological advances mean that libraries and information services in both the public and private sectors are changing dramatically and offer a wide range of attractive, challenging and rewarding career opportunities. This course prepares students for professional roles in a wide range of sectors, including education, health, social and cultural services, as well as business and commercial organizations.
The skills of librarians and information specialists are essential to identify, acquire, organize and make accessible the ever-increasing amounts of information available in paper, digital and multimedia formats. Library and information professionals need strong information handling, managerial and interpersonal skills, plus an understanding of the power of technology to transform information services provision. They must also have the imagination, commitment and enthusiasm to providing information services. The MA Librarianship program enables students to develop the right skills for the current information environment.

The MA in Librarianship can be taken as either a Professional Preparation Program, or as a Professional Enhancement Program. Each pathway is available as a full or part-time course.
