Program Overview

Program Description:

The acquisition of specialist commercial knowledge can give a head start to recent graduates before beginning their careers. In addition, it allows practising professionals to enhance their commercial familiarity – so this programme particularly welcomes applications from legal practitioners in law, business or the public sector who wish to complement their work with further study.

The LLM in Commercial Law provides graduates with a range of transferable skills and knowledge. The degree is based on core subjects in commercial and company law, which will provide the essential commercial legal principles required for further study. Students broaden their substantive knowledge through studying a range of options chosen from a wide list.

A significant feature of this School of Law is the fact that our LLM degrees develop students’ research skills and in-depth understanding through the preparation of a dissertation under the supervision of an expert member of staff. In this way our students are able to offer detailed specialist knowledge to their employers.

There are no formal exams and all assessments are by coursework. This programme can be studied full-time for one year, or on a part time basis over two or three years.  This programme has run for many years and LLM students from Sheffield have progressed into a variety of distinguished careers in law, business or academia.
