Program Overview
- Program Description:
- The Master of Public Administration (MPA) program prepares students to assume positions of leadership in public service, whether in the US or abroad. We define public service broadly to include governmental organizations at all levels (national, state, local), private nonprofit organizations (NPOs/NGOs), and for-profit organizations that interact extensively with the public sector. The MPA core curriculum provides students with the essential analytical, administrative, and political skills to work effectively as public service professionals. Students then select from a wide offering of elective courses and specialized areas of study to deepen their analytical and managerial skills. The MPA curriculum reflects many of today's most important developments in the field of public service including: the remarkable growth of the non-profit sector as a major force in public service; increasingly urgent problems of environmental management and policy; management and governance of urban and regional organizations as national governments "devolve" authority and accountability downward; and, effective resource management in an era of fiscal constraints.
