Program Description:

Gerontology is the scientific study of ageing. It is broadly based and truly multi-disciplinary, using the concepts, methods and findings from a range of disciplines, including biology, psychology, sociology, epidemiology, anthropology, social policy, medicine, nursing, law and ethics. Gerontology is distinguished from geriatrics which refers to the special branch of medicine concerned with the diseases and functioningof people over the age of 65 years. The term `behavioural gerontology' has been applied recently in the UK to differentiate psychology that relates to the process of ageing, leaving the term `social gerontology' to cover social policy and sociological aspects of ageing.
