The aims of this programme are to provide:- An understanding of the role of the media in democratic development and social change
- Training in conducting empirical studies of such processes in concrete national/social contexts on the basis of:
- appropriate research methodologies, both qualitative and quantitative, derived from the humanities and social sciences
- theories of media, their distinctive aesthetic character, social functions and meaning in an interconnected world
- theories of development and social change in relation to culture, social identify and democracy
