Program Overview

Program Description:
The Master of Science (MSc) and Doctor of Philosophy (PhD) graduate programs are offered jointly by UOIT's Faculty of Science and Trent University. Materials Science is a broad multidisciplinary area of science that involves the understanding and prediction of the properties of matter. The field lies at the intersection of physics and chemistry and includes many sub-fields, including nanotechnology, electronic materials, surface science, biomaterials and materials characterization. The program provides both a broad and integrated overview of materials science and the opportunity for in-depth study of a particular problem emphasizing either theory or experimentation, under the guidance of a thesis advisor and a multi-disciplinary team of faculty from both UOIT and Trent. Students will obtain their MSc degree through successful completion of a thesis and specified course requirements. The four fields in the PhD program include Materials Chemistry, Materials Physics, Biomaterials, and Theoretical and Computational Materials Science. PhD students will obtain their degree through a combination of advanced coursework and a dissertation.
