Program Overview
- Program Description:
- The MHSc program offers fields in Community Health, Health Informatics and in Kinesiology. MHSc training and research in Community Health will focus on the analysis of environmental and social conditions implicated in a community's health and wellness. As the health care system becomes increasingly oriented toward illness prevention and wellness promotion, the study of Community Health becomes correspondingly more essential. Health Informatics professionals will be prepared to identify and develop ways to manage and effectively use knowledge and information within the context of health care to support healthcare administration, management, policy, training, clinical management and clinical research. Students in health informatics will link to leading research on new and latest approaches to health informatics. Students in the kinesiology stream will synthesize current research and integrate practical and theoretical knowledge to understand how and why exercise and physical activity can be used as an intervention to promote health and well being in a range of populations including those with developmental delays, children and adolescents, adults with chronic pain, cardiovascular, respiratory, metabolic, psychiatric and neurological disease as well as recreational and high-performance athletes. Students will have the option of diverse research experiences in the kinesiology area ranging from intensive laboratory-based studies with human populations to interventional studies with special populations. Students will obtain their degree through successful completion of a thesis and specified course requirements or a research project and specified course requirements.
