Program Overview

Program Description:
The Doctorate of Audiology (Au.D.) degree in Communication Sciences and Disorders provides an academic and clinical foundation for professionals providing service to children and adults with auditory impairments. Completion of the Au.D. degree qualifies graduates for state licensure in the profession of Audiology as well as National certification. The program requires four years of full-time study that includes summer sessions during the first three years. Thirty-four semester hours of clinical practicum are required. The Au.D. Professional Program at the University of Oklahoma Health Sciences Center is a four-year, residence-based, post-baccalaureate program that culminates in the Au.D. degree. The first three years of the Au.D. student’s program includes intensive academic training in conjunction with the progressive development of clinical skills. The final year of the Au.D. program includes a 48-week clinical practicum experience that rotates students through four separate clinical sites. Although the Au.D. is a clinically-oriented professional degree rather than a research oriented academic degree, it is clear that effective clinical practice in the modern health care environment requires the ability to critically evaluate clinical research and assess intervention outcome. These skills will be developed through courses in research methods and statistics and through the development and presentation of original outcomes research during practicum rotations in the fourth year of study in both a grand rounds meeting and an academic forum. By fulfilling departmental requirements, students will meet all academic and clinical practicum requirements of the American Speech-Language-Hearing Association's Certificate of Clinical Competence and State of Oklahoma Licensure. student conducts hearing evaluation
