Program Overview
- Program Description:
- Traditional MS and PhD students are admitted through a centralized admissions committee. All incoming students begin their core courses and complete lab rotations before selecting a field of study. This gives students the opportunity to experience different areas of research and labs before committing to one. The MS and PhD is available in the following fields of study: biochemistry and molecular biology, cancer biology, cell biology, forensic genetics, integrative physiology, microbiology and immunology, neurobiology of aging, pharmacology and neuroscience, structural anatomy (PhD only) and visual sciences. The Graduate School of Biomedical Sciences also offers 2 specialized MS programs to help students prepare for a career in industry. Both the biotechnology and clinical research management programs include an internship experience to ensure that students have strong hands on experience prior to graduation. The MS in medical sciences program offers a one year MS degree that helps students strengthen their medical school applications. The rigorous curriculum helps students develop the study skills and time management skills necessary to be successful in medical school. This program is designed for bright and determined students who need more preparation before pursuing medical school. In addition to the biomedical sciences core courses, students complete MCAT preparation, application workshops, and mock interviews to help with the medical school application process. The MS in Forensic Genetics, professional track, prepares students for a career as a DNA Analyst. This program is FEPAC accredited and provides all of the academic preparation required to become a technical/lab manager.
