Program Description:

The Pharmaceutical Sciences Graduate Program at the University of Maryland, School of Pharmacy provides critical training to graduate students, as it prepares the next generation of independent scientists to work in regulatory bodies of the government, in academia, and in pharmaceutical industry. The focus is on laying a strong foundation in the basic sciences and educating students in the methods required for safe and effective drug therapies.

  Our collaborative and multidisciplinary environment as well as state-of-the-art facilities offer research opportunities in: 1) Chemistry of Life Processes, which includes biopharmaceutics, chemical synthesis of drugs and prodrugs,  drug development and discovery,  neurobiology, structural biology, and computational biology; 2) Quantitative Biosciences, which includes pharmacometrics and pharmacokinetics, drug transport and delivery systems; and 3) Translational & Regulatory Sciences, which is the application of basic science and pharmacology knowledge towards understanding the mechanisms and treatment of diseases.  These foci prepare our trainees for rewarding careers aimed at understanding disease processes, new drug discovery, and translating scientific discoveries into clinical applications.

Successful applicants to the PhD program receive teaching or research assistantship, as well as tuition and health benefits.
