- The Ph.D. program at UMBC recognizes the need for a multidisciplinary focus on "real-world", substantive problems; and of first-hand, familiarity with the tasks children face as they grow, with the environments that surround them, and with the practicalities of intervention in the real world. Consequently we are building into the program a growing emphasis on in-depth practicum experiences.
