Program Overview
- Program Description:
- The Department offers M.Sc. and Ph.D. programs of study in various areas of modern microbiology. Because the Department is relatively small, the research interests of the faculty and students are concentrated in five main areas: Microbial ecology and geochemistry Molecular biology/genetics Metabolism of autotrophic bacteria Microbial biotechnology and biochemistry Microbial pathogenicity The Department’s areas of study are among the most rapidly developing fields of microbiological research, resulting in program graduates that are in demand. By focusing on these areas, there are sufficient people working on related projects to ensure exchange of ideas, information and facilities. An important consequence of a relatively small Department is the friendly informal atmosphere. It is easy to get to know the students and faculty, who are very approachable and always willing to provide assistance to all students in the program.
