Program Description:
The Department of Civil Engineering offers programs of coursework and research leading to the Master of Science, Master of Engineering and Doctor of Philosophy in: Environmental engineering Geotechnical engineering Structural engineering Transportation engineering Water resources engineering The M.Eng. program is industrially-oriented and aimed at practicing engineers who wish to continue their studies on a broad basis. Applicants for the M.Sc. program will hold a Bachelor’s degree in Civil Engineering. Applicants with other qualifications may be accepted at the discretion of the Department Head and the Dean of Graduate Studies. The M.Sc. degree is attained through coursework and thesis. The Ph.D. program consists of coursework, original research, and thesis. The Department of Civil Engineering has acquired an international reputation for its research in environmental, geotechnical, structural, transportation, and water resources engineering. The new Engineering and Information Technology Complex (EITC) has some of the best teaching facilities at the University of Manitoba, with state-of-the-art classrooms and laboratories. It features a large central atrium with a Tim Horton’s outlet, a popular gathering place for students.

Requirements:
For admission into the Master of Science program, applicants are required to hold a Bachelor’s degree in Civil Engineering from a recognized university. Admission to the Ph.D. program is normally from the Master’s degree level, i.e., M.Eng. or M.Sc. See the Department website for full admission requirements. All applicants must also meet the minimum admission requirements of the Faculty of Graduate Studies. Possible start dates September, January, May
