Program Overview
- Program Description:
- The Mechatronic Research Group is well known for its work on the design of control systems for aircraft, missiles, robots and industrial machinery. Recent work has concentrated on demonstrating the practical effectiveness of controllers designed using Robust Inverse Dynamics Estimation (RIDE). RIDE provides a realisable method of implementing non-linear dynamic inversion and hence produces robust controllers, the design of which does not depend on uncertain and variable plant parameters. Other projects on the control of novel types of furnace for ceramic manufacture, domestic energy use and substitution for CFC refrigerants are supported by a Teaching Company Scheme. An EPSRC project on a small scale hydro power plant has also been initiated, based on Lancaster's long standing commitment to energy research.
