Because of South Africa's past isolation international students were not encouraged to study here. This has changed dramatically over the last few years and we now have students from 62 countries studying in the various departments. In addition, the University has signed agreements with universities across the world in support of exchange programmes for students and staff, collaborative teaching programmes, and collaborative research programmes. The University's strategic objective to internationalise is linked to the need to globalise our curriculum and prepare our students for the 21st century.
