Program Description:
The Master’s Degree Programme in Intercultural Communication is a two-year interdisciplinary course of study designed to enhance the professional communication competence of students preparing for careers involving significant intercultural contact. The complete studies total 120 ECTS credits: Additional studies (40 ECTS credits), Advanced studies in Intercultural Communication (40 ECTS credits), and a Master’s Thesis (40 ECTS credits). An internship of 2-3 months is included in the advanced studies. In addition to courses on Intercultural Communication and Intercultural Competence, students may focus on issues related to intercultural and international relations, intercultural education and training, communication, language and semiotics, multiculturalism in organizations and society, as well as area studies. The modes of study on the courses vary and alternate. Studies include contact teaching sessions, which students are required to attend. In addition to the contact teaching, students need to study independently for book exams and essays ans participate in group work. Students are expected to graduate in two years.
International Requirements:
The language of instruction in the programme is English. Therefore, a good command of English is a necessity. A TOEFL or IELTS language certificate is required for all applicants, except those who have graduated from a high school, an upper-secondary school, or an institution of higher education with education fully completed in English in Great Britain, Ireland, the USA, Canada, Australia, or New Zealand. Applicants are required to have a minimum TOEFL score of 580 (paper test), 237 (computer-based) or 92 (internet-based) and 6.5 or above in IELTS.
