Program Description:

The English Department of the University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign provides comprehensive graduate training in all areas of English studies, including English and American literature, from Medieval toPostmodern writing, criticism and literary theory, film studies, African-American literature, postcolonial literature, women's studies, and writing studies. The department admits around twenty-five new graduate students each year. Most are candidates for the M.A. who will, upon successful completion of that degree, continue on for the Ph.D.
