- The mission of UGA Costa Rica is to provide academically-rigorous instruction, relevant community outreach, service-learning experiences, and cutting-edge research opportunities for undergraduates, graduate students, and faculty, their colleagues and peers from other domestic and international institutions of higher education, and nature-based tourists. In addition to the experiential options available on the UGA CR campus, supplemental experiences are provided in other parts of Costa Rica and throughout Latin America.
Going into the 2012 academic year, roughly 60 UGA faculty representing 28 academic disciplines will be working with UGA Costa Rica’s study abroad programs. We currently offer 24 study abroad programs, including interdisciplinary spring and fall semester programs. We offer core, upper and graduate-level courses in the sciences, arts and humanities. Many programs include homestays with local families. Programs are open to all undergraduate and graduate students - UGA and non-UGA students. Out of state students pay in-state Georgia tuition.
Depending upon program length and number for credit hours taken, program costs range between $650 and $9000. Please see our website for more detailed information. The program cost includes room, board and activity fees. The cost of tuition and flight is not included.
- Setting Description:
- The University of Georgia owns a 155-acre property in San Luis de Monteverde that borders the Monteverde Cloudforest Reserve. The UGA Costa Rica campus is a full-service education and research facility, with student and faculty residential areas, classrooms, wet laboratory, library and internet facility, kitchen and dining hall, student union, and miles of hiking trails. UGACR also features the San Luis Botanical Garden which is established and directed by the curator of the State Botanical Garden of Georgia. There are also horse stables, an organic farming operation, and more.
