Global Law is not to this day an established sub-discipline in the legal field. It is an emerging school of legal scholarship, whose actors try to grasp existing normative phenomena that do exist – and sometimes have a determinate influence on world affairs or our daily lives – but are not, or sometimes only marginally, taken into account by positive law.

Issues such as algorithmic law, governing by standards (i.e. ISO norms, OECD’s BEPS or SDG), legal pluralism, soft law, transnational litigation, extra-territorial implementation of national law, global constitutionalism, post-national law or non-state-made law will be examined by the world leading specialists.

Learning outcomes:
The students will learn about the existence and structural principles of little studied normative phenomena and be able to draw their own map of global law. They will have the opportunity to see and understand how the debate on the definition and relevance of the global law approach, as the professors teaching in this Summer School defend different visions on the definition and uses of global law.

Evaluation:
The students wishing to get credit (6 ECTS) for the Summer school need to attend all sessions during the two weeks and send back within 2 weeks of the end of the Summer School an original 5’000 words essay on a global law issue. Students wishing to submit a paper must have their paper proposal (max. 1 page) approved by the course director during the Summer school.
