Program Overview

Program Description:
The Master of Arts Program in Humanities (MAPH) is an intensive, one-year MA program. It offers students a rigorous, personalized academic course of study that provides the critical foundations necessary to successfully pursue further graduate work or professions outside the academy. MAPH students take 8 graduate courses and write an MA thesis. All MAPH students share one course, Foundations of Interpretive Theory, the theoretical backbone of the program, which engages students directly with work essential to contemporary humanistic inquiry. Students complete their remaining coursework in the departments of the University’s graduate divisions and professional schools. While they have the freedom to direct their own courses of study, students receive personal advising from faculty across the University as well as from MAPH’s dedicated faculty director, deputy directors and staff.
