COUNSELING, M.S. Combining theory with the human experience, the Master of Science in Counseling at UB offers professional preparation for counseling careers in a multitude of settings. Students share a core counseling curriculum with the remaining coursework related to community counseling. A hallmark of the program is the supervised field and internship experience, which adds depth and perspective to each students learning experience. There are also opportunities for students to network with alumni who are working in the field. With the help of an academic advisor, students plan an individualized program and can complete the program at a pace suitable for them, be it part-time or full-time. CLINICAL MENTAL HEALTH COUNSELING CONCENTRATION The concentration in Clinical Mental Health Counseling is ideal for students who wish to work as counselors in public or private agencies that provide direct service to clients with mental health issues. The program offers advanced coursework in clinical skills, psychopathology, appraisal procedures, addiction and psychotherapeutic techniques. This concentration is the first step toward licensure as a professional counselor. Classes are offered at our beautiful seaside campus in a flexible evening format with some online and weekend opportunities. They are taught by faculty members who are experienced counselors and university scholars adept at teaching adult students.
