Program Description:

The MSc Medical Biotechnology programme is designed to offer a high-level training to graduates with an interest in careers in the medical biotechnology industry. This 12-month programme starts every September. The field of biotechnology has matured during the past two decades and is now recognised as providing a major impetus and support for developments in clinical and medical fields as well as the more traditional areas of general and environmental biotechnology. Medical biotechnology offers both conventional and innovative solutions to problems associated with clinical, surgical and medical situations. Modern molecular biology and genetics provide novel techniques for the detection and modification of micro-organisms for clinical purposes, for the understanding of the mode of action of antibiotic resistance mechanisms and how they may be evaded, for informed drug design, and in the use of genetic modification in the development of novel treatment regimes.
