Program Overview

Program Description:
Biometrics is a discipline relating to the identification of individuals, historically based on physiological characteristics such as fingerprinting, face and retinal analysis. However, behavioural biometrics such as voice and gait are also important characteristics that can be very powerful indicators of identity when combined with other traits. You will study this multi-modality of biometrics. Computing intelligence is a broad term relating to the acquisition and analysis of security data. This covers digital forensics and a portfolio of artificial intelligence methods to uncover suspicious activity from data repositories. Whilst it may be advantageous to have a numerate or technical computing background, the course is designed to also appeal to those with other backgrounds in, for example, sociology and psychology. These disciplines are included in the course as there is a need to understand the social context of biometrics systems as well as the behavioural aspects. Underpinning the course as a whole is a requirement for more enhanced decision-making within law enforcement.
