Program Overview

Program Description:
Master's degree graduates of the Rehabilitation Counseling program help people with disabilities achieve the highest possible level of independent functioning. Are you interested in working in a challenging and rewarding profession? Our rehabilitation counseling graduates hold leadership positions around the country. They work with people disabled by physical, mental, emotional, or social conditions to alleviate their psychological, social, vocational, and educational problems. Do you want to study and train with faculty members who are both scholars and practitioners? UB's Rehabilitation Counseling program is one of the oldest and best of its kind in the United States. In addition, the program is fully accredited by the New York State Education Department and nationally accredited by the Council on Rehabilitation Education (CORE). The Rehabilitation Counseling program emphasizes practical application of skills and techniques learned in the classroom to people receiving services at rehabilitation agencies. Students get clinical training in three of their four semesters in the program. In addition, students can plan individual programs of study with their faculty advisors. Some highlights of the Rehabilitation Counseling program: This degree leads to a job – 95% of the graduates of this program are employed in rehabilitation-related positions Money available for study – in many cases, tuition costs are covered by stipends/tuition waivers to qualified students Paid internships available – earn money and gain experience through one of our limited number of paid internships in New York, New Jersey, Puerto Rico, and the U.S. Virgin Islands You can work and still find time for study – all classes are scheduled after 4 p.m., so your studies will not interfere with your work schedule Our courses are online – the entire master's degree program became available via the Internet in Fall 2008 (see online program delivery page)
