Program Description:

University at Buffalo offers an NAAB-accredited Master of Architecture in a 2-year program for those who have undergraduate degrees in architecture and a 3.5-year program for those holding degrees in other disciplines. The University at Buffalo also offers a Master of Science in Architecture for those who are interested in engaging in research and specialized scholarship. Dual degree options with the Master of Urban Planning, Master of Fine Arts, and Master of Business Administration are also available.

Accreditation:

The Department of Architecture, part of the School of Architecture and Planning at the University at Buffalo, is the only unit within the State University of New York system to offer the first professional degree, the master of architecture (MArch), fully accredited by the National Architecture Accreditation Board. The department also offers a number of alternate tracks and degree configurations, including an undergraduate minor in architecture, a 3 1/2 year MArch for graduate students holding undergraduate or graduate degrees in a field other than architecture, a 1 1/2 year post-professional MArch for those holding a first professional degree, and dual degree options with the Department of Planning, the School of Management, and the Department of Media Study.

Requirements:

Completed Applications must include academic transcripts, GRE score, and a portfolio. The portfolio is a means of presenting your best work to be analyzed by a review committee. Three letters of recommendation must be included. Applicants must also submit a résumé that outlines their work and educational experience.

International Requirements:

The Department of Architecture welcomes qualified applicants from abroad. International applicants are evaluated on the basis of academic qualifications, English-language proficiency, and evidence of financial support. In addition, applicants with TOEFL scores between 550-625 paper-based or 213-263 computer-based must take the SPEAK test upon arrival at UB during the International Student Orientation. Students submitting an International English Language System (IELTS) score must have earned a 6.5 overall score with no individual subscore below 6.0.
