- The Geriatric Nurse Practitioner (GNP) programs are designed to prepare nurse practitioners who provide care to older adults in a variety of settings, practicing independently and collaboratively with other health care professionals. In this role, the GNP works to maximize functional abilities; promotes, maintains and restores health; prevents or minimizes disabilities; and promotes death with dignity. GNP practice incorporates advanced practice, case management, education, consultation, research and advocacy for older adults. The program meets the National Organization of Nurse Practitioner Faculties (NONPF) guidelines and graduates are eligible and encouraged to take the national GNP-ANCC certification exam.
