Program Overview
- Program Description:
- The Department of Geology offers M.A. (non-thesis), M.S.(thesis) and Ph.D. degrees. As a student at UB you will learn cutting-edge scientific methods from leading scholars in the field. Our graduate students assume full partnership in research, and we challenge them to be the sum of our collective expertise. Our faculty and students work on projects without limitations or departmental boundaries. The UB Geology Department has research opportunities in many areas. These include • Climate Change • Ecology and Evolution • Environment and Energy • Volcanology Students interested in paleontology also may participate in the interdisciplinary graduate programs (MS and Ph.D.) in Ecology, Evolution and Behavior. The Department of Geology offers an advanced, graduate certificate program in Professional Science Management . The Professional Science Management (PSM) certificate is designed to allow students to pursue advanced training in science without a Ph.D., while simultaneously developing highly-valued business skills without an MBA. The UB Geology Department also is home to the Center for Geohazard Studies. The Center for GeoHazard Studies is a broadly interdisciplinary group of faculty members and students from the University at Buffalo and from institutions around the world that focuses on the reduction of harmful societal effects of hazards resulting from surface or near surface geological phenomena such as: landslides, mudflows, volcanic flows, avalanches, and surface or subsurface water flows.
