Program Overview

Program Description:
The BME Department is centrally located in the School of Engineering and Applied Sciences in the North Campus of the University at Buffalo. It is in close proximity to the School of Medicine and Biomedical Sciences in the South Campus. Biomedical Engineering has been a longstanding specialty at UB - the formation of the BME Department in 2008 was the logical result of productive collaborations between researchers at both schools. The program was made possible in part by a generous $3 million grant from the John R. Oishei Foundation of Buffalo, NY. Generously supported by federal and state funding agencies and by industry, we pursue multidisciplinary research and offer training at the cutting edge of biomedical engineering in these main areas: Molecular-cellular, Cell, and Tissue Engineering Biomedical Sensors, Instrumentation and Diagnostics Computational Engineering and Modeling Medical Imaging and Analysis In January 2010, the New York State Education Department approved the department. We are now offering a B.S. Degree in Biomedical Engineering. Masters Degree and Ph.D. Degree Programs are currently in the works. Future growth is anticipated in alignment with UB 2020 research strategies of "Health and Wellness Across the Lifespan", "Molecular Recognition in Biological System and Bioinformatics", and "Integrated Nanostructured Systems".
