Program Overview

Program Description:
Human Geography, Planning and Development Studies is a research master's programme, which means that it pre-selects students for an academic career or a career in applied research. It is a selective master's programme aimed for the more talented and motivated students. Candidate students have to pass a selection procedure. The programme is open for Dutch students as well as for foreign students. Duration is two years. After completion a Master's degree (MSc) will be awarded. A number of graduates can advance into a PhD programme. The programme is characterised by a large degree of professional specialisation, training in research methods at a high academic level, and attention for designing and conducting academic research. Students can choose from a variety of specialist courses in the disciplines of human geography, planning and development studies. They participate in workshops to present their research work and comment on the work of others, and finally have to conduct an individual research project leading to a thesis and other research products such as an academic article.
