Program Overview

Program Description:
The MSc in General Biology is one of the four MSc tracks in Biological Sciences offered by the Universiteit van Amsterdam. General biology courses cover everything from the molecular mechanisms of a virus to the population dynamics of African elephants. The MSc in General Biology is perfect for students who want to become specialists with a broad orientation rather than be restricted to one subject in the field of biology. The three variants of the MSc study programme in General Biology focus on research, applications in society and teaching and communication. Most of the programme consists of research lab courses. Students work with scientists on current research at the Biology Department or one of the associated research institutes such as Sanquin (Central Blood Bank Laboratory), the Netherlands Cancer Institute or the Dutch Institute for Ecological Research. The MSc in General Biology is coordinated by the research Institute for Biodiversity and Ecosystem Dynamics (IBED) and the Swammerdam Institute for Life Sciences (SILS).
